Principles and Elements of Risk Management – Data and Initial Conditions

2014

This chapter is devoted to furnishing background information on Risk Management, explaining the string of steps that comprise it, and the use of techniques within it, as well as their relationships. The chapter follows the widely accepted sequence for risk identification, assessment, execution, remediation and control; it starts with some basic definitions and, in its first topic, analyzes the sources for risks, considering internal and external risks and opportunities. It follows with a guide for identifying and managing risks in different areas of a project and suggests appropriate tools and techniques for each one. Completion of sequence sensitivity analysis, a subject developed in full …

NCOG-10. FACTORS INFLUENCING NEUROCOGNITIVE FUNCTION IN PATIENTS WITH NEUROEPITHELIAL TUMORS

2017

Though cognitive function is proven to be an independent predictor of survival in patients with intrinsic brain tumors, higher cognitive functions are still seldom studied. Aim of this study was to assess neurocognitive function and to identify risk factors for neurocognitive deficits in patients with intrinsic brain tumors. 103 patients with primary neuroepithelial tumors who received tumor resections or biopsies were included in this prospective study. The following data was acquired: mini-mental state examination, preoperative tumor volume, WHO grade, tumor entity and location, and the Karnofsky performance status scale. Furthermore, patients conducted an extensive neuropsychological tes…

Anthropometric Indicators as a Tool for Diagnosis of Obesity and Other Health Risk Factors: A Literature Review

2021

[EN] Obesity is characterized by the accumulation of an excessive amount of fat mass (FM) in the adipose tissue, subcutaneous, or inside certain organs. The risk does not lie so much in the amount of fat accumulated as in its distribution. Abdominal obesity (central or visceral) is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer, having an important role in the so-called metabolic syndrome. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent, detect, and appropriately treat obesity. The diagnosis is based on anthropometric indices that have been associated with adiposity and its distribution. Indices themselves, or a combination of some of them, conform to a big picture with di…
